Unflavoured green loose leaf tea sample set. Collection includes:
Sencha: This is a top grade tea from Japan. The leaf is first steamed then pan fried to give a distinctive look and feel. From Shizuoka on the Fujiyama mountain slopes. The taste is distinct with a dominant strong green tea flavour. A top grade Sencha.
Superior Gunpowder: Gunpowder tea gets its name from the tightly rolled leaves looking like old gunpowder shot. Gunpowder is a popular type of green tea and our Superior is one of the best available. A small, dark green & tightly rolled leaf with surprising body & captivating green tea taste.
Japan Hojicha: Hojicha is a specialist tea from Kyoto Japan. The leaves are first dried & heated like an orthodox tea, then roasted in a pan. The slow roasting process produces a tea with a unique sweet flavour with a pleasant aroma.
Mountain Dragon Green: A high grown full flavoured Mao Feng special green tea with grassy notes. Safflower petals are an attractive addition.
China Palace Needle: Like all tea rarities, the Palace Needle is produced with utmost caution and care. Harvested in the Province of Hubei in mid-April, only the finest leaves & the buds are plucked, steamed, dried, sieved & re-selected again before packaging
Genmaicha: This is a speciality Japanese green tea (Sencha) that is blended with fire-toasted rice. It makes a light, golden yellow tea with a unique, toasty rice flavour. During the firing of the rice, it is not uncommon for rice to ‘pop’ like popcorn, hence the pet name ‘popcorn-tea’.
To brew: The secret to brewing green tea is to not use boiling water. This scalds the delicate leaf giving the resulting brew a bitter taste. We recommend leaving the kettle 5 mins to cool before use (water should be about 180’F or 80’C). Place 1 teaspoon in your cup let the tea steep for about 2-3 minutes. In many cases the leaves can be reused the same day for 2-3 extra brews.
